Mooting Experience – 9th UPES Dehradun Dr. Pars Diwan Memorial International Energy Law Moot Court Competition, 2019

Team – LLOYD Law College, Greater Noida comprising of Sarthak Raj (1st Speaker), Pratap Thakuri (2nd Speaker) and Wakani Nongtdu (Researcher)

Citation – Runners Up and Best Memorials

It all started in January 2019 when the team and the speaker arrangements were decided, and I found out that I would be headed to the 9th Dr. Pars Diwan Memorial International Energy Law Moot Court Competition as the first speaker. I would also be speaking for both sides. Depending on which role I was playing in that particular round, I would have to argue either for or against that proposition. This essentially required me to be familiar with twice as much material as compared to a person who specialized in either role! Initially, I was not sure if I could argue both sides with equal fervour. Nevertheless, the regular practice rounds helped to ease me into my role, and my confidence grew.

Mooting Experience – 5th NLIU Justice R.K. Tankha International Arbitration Moot Court Competition 2020

Team – National Law University Odisha (NLUO)

Citation – Best Memorials – Both Claimant and Respondent

Mooting is an art. Well, this might sound a bit rosy but each time one picks up a moot, it is an unprecedented experience. When I picked up this moot, I had no idea about arbitration. But as they say, there is always a start for everything. Thus, in order for us to actually understand Arbitration from its roots, I along with my entire team started our pre-readings at a considerable time before the actual competition. We used to set internal targets in order to keep on track.

Mooting Experience – 5th International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM), NLU Odisha 2018

Team – Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, (RGNUL) Punjab

Citation- Runners-up

Participating in moot court competitions is the most exciting activity in a law school. This activity is considered as a co-curricular activity; however, it helps a law student to apply the provisions of law to a specific factual situation, thereby, enabling him/her to churn his/her capability in understanding the nuances of such field.

As the name suggests the competition is on International Commercial Arbitration and its application in Maritime Law. The fields of International Commercial Arbitration and Maritime Law are developing with the passage of time and can be very fruitful for Indian Legal System. As the aforementioned fields of law are emerging so it was perplexing for us to understand the intricacies of these laws and to apply the same to our problem. The jurisprudence relating to these fields of law is limited and there are only a few sources available in this respect, in addition to it, only a few seniors had the experience in this field. Therefore, it became more onerous for us to crack and work on the problem.

Mooting Experience – 9th Justice P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition

Team – National Law University Odisha

Citations – Winners, Best Speaker (Revathi Thushara)

From the first day, I entered my law school everyone used to talk about moots. I started to moot just to explore what the buzz was all about and now I am of the opinion that one must try it. You will get to learn law, researching, drafting, team co-ordination and most importantly it helps you build confidence in your abilities. Remember that no one is a loser but, everyone is a learner in a moot. So, do give it a try once.

I have participated in the 9th Justice P.N. Bhagwati International Moot Court Competition on Human Rights in the year 2019. With a little bit of pride, I can state that we won the moot and I have also been awarded the citation of Best Speaker. Further, we have also won the Second-Best Research Memorial citation. The second day of the competition was a remarkable day for us. We were really glad that our efforts reaped such golden fruits.

Mooting Experience – Surana & Surana and UPES School of Law National Insolvency Law Moot Court Competition, 2019

Team – National Law University Odisha

Citation – Best Memorial

As the name itself suggests the moot is on Insolvency Law. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 seeks to consolidate the existing framework by creating a single law for insolvency and bankruptcy. As it is an emerging law so it was very challenging for us to understand the intricacies of this law and to apply the same to our problem. There are only a few good books on Indian Insolvency law and we had only a few seniors in our college who had knowledge of IBC so it became more challenging for us to crack the solutions of the issues given in our Moot Problem.

PREPARATION OF THE MEMORIAL

As our college is known for winning the citation of ‘Best Memorial’ in almost all moots our college participates in, so there was already lots of pressure on us to maintain the legacy. The pressure sometimes broke us but sometimes filled us fully with the spirit of winning. We started our preparation 2-3 months before the release of Moot Proposition, this process is famously known as ‘Pre-reading’. Pre-reading is very essential to understand the subject matter beforehand and reduces wastage of time after the Moot Proposition is released.

Mooting Experience – Amity International Paperless Moot 2019

Team- Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA

Citation: Best Memorial and Runners up

Amity International Moot is a Paperless Moot on the subject area of International Criminal Law. The law of international jurisdiction was in itself a challenge for our team to adapt and get use to the nuances of international criminal law. We started our preparation couple of months before the submission of Memorial. As it is the Paperless Moot, we were not required to submit any hard copies and thus, it was quite challenging for us to manage all the soft copies in our laptop and not to lose our patience during pleadings when bench asked us for references.

Preparation of the Memorial

When we started preparing for the moot, we did not know much about the International Criminal Law so, we started reading it from the scratch and we used to read Articles and Cases. Once the problem was released we read it as a religious text for the next two months regularly.
